A-S1200, A-S2200 and A-S3200 - Yamaha with new top models of integrated amplifiers Featured
Written by Karl Erik SyltheYamaha launches three new top models of integrated amplifiers. And the new line of classic elegance that started round ten years ago continues unabated.
Probably some and all of us went a little tired of the 90's and early 2000 design line from Yamaha, with a solid deep V-profile in the front on both AV receivers and stereo amplifiers. About 10 years ago came a radical change, with a new refreshing yet classic design line on the HiFi components from Yamaha.
In the upper segment, we're talking about the Yamaha A-S1000, A-S2000 and -S3000 - three sophisticated integrated amplifiers where the two largest models emphasized their classic "look" with a set of neat VU meters in the front. And a few years later, the kid Brother would also join this Vu-run, when the A-S1000 became the A-S1100. Though the kid? Yamaha's amplifier series starts at the bottom of the A-S301, and climbs up to the four-digit models via A-S501 / 701 and 801. But then you have to manage without double VU meters.
2020 models
Now comes a whole new generation with the A-S1200, A-S2200 and A-S3200. The new generation is confusingly similar to the outgoing models A-S1100, A-S2100 and A-S3100, and it will be a demanding exercise to distinguish the front of the outgoing models from their respective heirs.
The smallest model A-S1200 has 5 analog inputs in addition to a dedicated phono input with selectable sensitivity for MM / MC. One of the ordinary inputs is a Main-in, where the signal goes directly to the power amplifier. This is well suited for use with HT-Bypass, and all three new amplifier models have been included in our exclusive overview of stereo amplifiers with HT bypass.
The speaker terminals of these lavish amplifiers are a visual and tactile pleasure. Inside the enclosures we find a ring core transformer of 625 VA in all Three models.
