Although Luxman D-03X is an advanced media player capable of, among other things, decoding MQA files, most people will associate it with a robust HighEnd CD player. A robust and stable drive forms a solid base for CD playback, which is taken care of by a thick steel top plate, an 8mm thick aluminum base and a subchassis made up of a shielded box. The advantages this provides are reinforced by an asymmetric mechanical layout, with the drive being located on the left side.

Dual Mono DACs

The DAC is a dual mono construction built on dual Texas Instruments 32-bit PCM1795. Luxman claims that the dual mono construction helps uncover subtle micro-dynamics in rendering. The USB input supports PCM data up to 384 kHz / 32-bit and DSD data up to 11.2 MHz, while the optical and coaxial input supports PCM signals up to 192 kHz / 24-bit.

Bulk Pet

In addition to conventional isochronous file transfers at fixed bit rates, the USB input supports four modes of " Bulk Pet " high-resolution audio file transfer. Bulk Pet optimizes data packing and delivery to DAC, facilitates CPU processing and thus improves playback stability and, according to Luxman, contributes to enhanced sound quality.

Inputs and outputs

The Luxman D-03X features 18mm gold-plated RCA outputs and Neutric balanced XLR outputs. A USB input that supports both PCM and DSD is complemented by both optical and coax inputs and outputs.

Oversized power supply

The D-03X player has an oversized power supply to create stable voltage. It also has independent controllers for each circuit, and large capacitors. To reduce even the subtle effects of magnetic fields, grounding impedance and digital noise, the chassis is shielded and without grounding loop.

Zoom display

Luxman has found a solution to the classic display readability problem from the listening position. In addition to the display having a zoom feature, they have added a color coding for different levels of MQA decoding.

LUXMAN Audio Player

Luxman has created its own software for playing music from a PC or MAC. A separate version has been created with a driver for Windows and a version for Mac. File types supported by this program are FLAC / WAV / MP3 / ALAC / AIFF plus DSF / DSDIFF.

Aluminum remote control

The D-03X remote is a sturdy aluminum construction. In addition to the usual relaxation functions, we find some surprises. A function can turn off the digital outputs, obviously to eliminate digital noise that can be captured by the analog outputs. Another surprise is the possibility of phase inversion of the analog outputs. This applies to both RCA and balanced outputs. The setting is saved even if players are turned off.
