Yamaha with new AVENTAGE Series.

Yamaha launches xx40 generation of its AVENTAGE Series. The two largest models will support Dolby ATMOS.

We reported two days ago about the new Onkyo models with support for Dolby ATMOS. Now, it is Yamaha`s turn to launch the same option for two of their receivers.

AVETNTAGE is the top line of receivers from Yamaha. It is natural to divide the series into two parts, where the RX-A740 and RX-A840 represents models in the middle class, while the three models RX-A1040, RX-A2040 and RX-A3040 can be defined as top class models. And there are the two largest of those that is receiving support for Dolby ATMOS, in the form of a software update later this fall.

But we start with the smaller models. We can of course recognise the upgrades we reported about the new budget series earlier this spring . It's all about WiFi and Wireless Direct, which allows for direct network outside any home network. And it is also about the improved room correction YAPO R.S.C., and Virtual Cinema Front. From RX-A840 and upwards it is furthermore multipoint measurements in YAPO R.C.S. We speak of course of the latest HDMI 2.0 and upgrades necessary to support 4k.

It is also interesting to note that we now must up to RX-A1040 to get analog 7.1 inputs. This underlines the analog multichannel inputs are in retreat, a trend we also see from competing manufacturers.

It is the RX-A2040 and RX-A3040 that allows for Dolby ATMOS. This will not be delivered from the start, but as a software upgrade. RX-A2040 is a 9.2.-amplifier, and has pre-out for 7.2. Depending on flexibility in configuring the pre-out, it appears as somewhat unclear whether this model can be a full 7.2.4 configuration, or if there is talk of a so-called ATMOS-ready solution, for example. 7.2.2. This, of course also depending on whether the processor has 11 channels.

For RX-A3040 however, there is less doubt that it could be a 7.2.4 setup with ATMOS, since this has pre-out in 11.2 even if it is only 9 power amplifiers. An external two-channel power amplifier may fullfill this. RX-A3040 is otherwise the only model with 32-bit DACs for the seven main channels.

So far we have no information on pricing for the new AVENTAGE models, but there is little reason to assume that they differ significantly from the respective models they supersede.
