CX-A5100 - new flagship processor from Yamaha

Written by

Yamaha launches the sequel to Cx-A5000. The newcomer CX-A5100 supports of course 3D sound.

We have seen this coming for a while. Some months ago the predecessor CX-A5000 was dumped substantially, both abroad and at home. CX-A500 is certainly a very good processor, but despite a very modest age it began to get aging signs. An AV processor in this segment can not bear to not be on top in almost anything. And when the Atmos Revolution raged starting about a year or so ago, it was clear that the flagship processor neither was compatible, or would to be equipped with the upgrade option.

It was therefore highly expected when it is now clear that the new processor Yamaha CX-A5100 is launched. And it's of course no surprise that both Dolby Atmos and DTS: X is supported, the latter via an upcoming software update. Only small fly in the ointment will be that those of us who look forward to enjoying releases in Auro-3D from 2L and eventually Sono Luminus, probably still must stick to products from Marantz or Denon in the fairly moderate price classes.

But Yamaha CX-A5100 has very much good to offer. Complete sets of pre-outs in both RCA and XLR. WiFI and Bluetooth is of cource present - the same goes for 4K and HDCP 2.2.

Yamaha has always had a specialty in their DSP sound fields, and now they have developed a new CINEMA DSP HD3 that works in 11.2. It will be interesting to study in how this wil work in combination with all 3D codecs and upmixiers from Dolby and DTS, including Dolby Surround and DTS` 3D equivalent.

CX-A5100 also features an improved version of YAPO, with 64-bit equalizercalkulation and speaker angle measurement. It use 192kHz / 32bits DACs from ESS, the ES9016.
