Onkyo with very aggressive Atmos policy.

Onkyo with kick-start for Dolby Atmos. Customers who purchase one of the midrange receivers in August or September, get free Atmos-enabled speakers included.

 

 

It was quite startling as the Onkyo earlier this summer announced that the mid range receivers would get Dolby Atmos as Software upgrade. Maybe not as compelling for the TX-NR838 as for the TX-NR636 and TX-NR737. Please read about in our article here .

Now Onkyo tops this by providing a kick-start scheme. Customers who purchase one of these three receivers in August or September this year, will get a set of Onkyo's Atmos-enabled speakers SKH-410 included in the purchase. These will be forwarded as soon as they are ready for delivery, probably in October. This scheme assumes that the receiver is purchased through an authorized dealer, and apply to countries Austria, Belgium, Denmark, , Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and United Kingdom.

 

Speakers that are so-called "Atmos-enabled ', is intended to send the audio for the height channel upward from the same position as the main speakers, for reflection in the ceiling. In Onkyo's concept the separate speakers are ment to be placed on top of the main speakers, while Pioneer has created a set where the Atmos-enabled speakers are integrated in the main speakers. There is every reason to believe that this concept will not work as well as ceiling-mounted speakers, but it provides an opportunity for those that not want to mount speakers speakers in the ceiling.
