Two new Marantz AV receivers Featured

Written by

Marantz launches two new mid-range and top-range AV receivers. We are talking about SR5014 and SR6014.

We have previously mentioned this year's new AV receivers with SlimLine design - the NR1200, NR1510 and NR 1710 with 2, 5 and 7 channels respectively. Now, Marantz is launching two new models a bit higher up the hierarchy. These are models that have clear parallels in Denon's models AVR-X2600H and AVR-X3600H that we wrote about a few weeks ago. The latter is a very sharp-shoed model that we get for review in a week or two, and for which we have high expectations.

Marantz's models have had the habit of making a small notch over the comparable Denon models in price, and it may look like that will be the case this time around.

Marantz SR5014

SR5014 is a 7.2 reveiver that delivers 100 watts in 8 ohms with dual channel operation. This is slightly more than the otherwise highly comparable AVR-X2600H from Denon. Otherwise, the specifications are quite similar, and involve the following:

  • 8 HDMI inputs with HDCP2.3, eARC and Dolby Vision
  • Support for Dolby Atmos and DTS: X
  • Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual: X
  • WiFi and Bluetooth
  • Transmits to Bluetooth headphones with independent volume control
  • Heos streaming and multi-room system
  • AirPlay 2
  • Support for Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Marantz SR6014

This is a 9 channel amplifier which has 11.2 processor and also 11.2 pre-out. This means that you can have a full-blood Dolby Atmos or DTS: X setup with 7.2.4 if you connect an additional two-channel power amplifier. This makes the SR6014 very comparable to Denon's AVR-X3600H ,that we wrote about a few weeks ago.

IMAX Enhanced

The other big difference between SR5014 and SR6014 is that the latter is IMAX Enhanced certified. It puts it in company with Denon's models AVR-X3600H, AVR-X4500H, AVC-X6500H and AVC-X8500H, in addition to the Pioneer VSX-LX 304 and VSX-LX504 that we wrote about a few days ago .

But also the room correction is more advanced in SR6014. Here we find the Audyssey MultEQ XT32. And here too the power is 5 watts higher than that of Denon's cousin.
