Technics has relaunched the old classic SL-1200.It comes in two incarnations - SL-1200G and the lavish anniversary model SL-1200GAE.

When Technics arose from the afterlife a year or so ago, the turntables were one of the aspects that might be related to the most tension for some people. SL-1200 Series SL-1200 and SL-1210 is perhaps the most popular models this manufacturer have had, although there have been far more costly models in the range.

But Technics has also a Rich selection within all component categories. At this year's IFA trade show in Berlin Technics was the exhibitor who had by far the best stand for HiFi enthusiasts, and also the best sound demo, with various setups singing insolent good!

Detail of tonearmSL-1200 was not exhibited at IFA, just a kind of prototype that did not provide much concrete information. All the more gratifying that they now have two versions of the recreated SL-1200 in the horizon.

Direct-drive was the trademark of the old SL-1200 series, and it is present also for the two new models. Direct-drive has traditionally been defined as a DJ thing, whereas belt drive is for HiFi entusiasts. This is a factor that Technics has wanted to redefine with their new structures, which they claim has the advantages of both concepts.

For although the design is unmistakably akin to the old series, it is new technology under the top plate in aluminum, With newly developed technology in the motor.

The model that will be available first of all is the anniversary model SL-1200GAE. The main difference from the SL-1200G is that the former has an arm in magnesium, while the standard model SL-1200G has aluminium tonearm.
