Dali Opticon is launched

Written by

Dali has launched a brand new speaker series. Opicon settles in the midrange price ratio, and consists of 7 models. And in the standmount speakers we find a surprise.

Dali released a few teasers earlier this summer about this new range. We wrote briefly about it here, and one of the few points of substance was that the new Opticon series would replace the Ikons. Now that the series is released this is not exactly repeated in plain text, but there is little reason to assume that Dali has changed their mind in the course of a month.

Opticon family has of 7 members. And with such a comprehensive series in this price segment should be an important aspect in the market. Dali's series have been popular, and perhaps especially Ikon series, which added "a touch of class" in a moderate price range.

Hybrid tweeter has been an ... .ehhhh .... icon for Dali's speaker series, if we exclude the most economical series. It is therefore a bit surprising that the two standmount models Opticon 1 and 2 only has a classic soft-dome. The other models including the center and on-wall model has a hybrid tweeter with ribbon tweeter plus soft dome. Mermories are going back to press summit in Copenhagen during the launch of Zensor series, where ceo Lars Worre told that they had achieved such good results with the development of the soft-dome solution in Zensor, that the demand for a hybrid tweeter was greatly reduced. And expenses spared. It is perhaps a result of further development of the dome solution that enables also stand models to Ikon-inheritors get a pure soft-dome tweeter?

In return all the models have woofers produced in the same material as in Flagship speakers Epicon - a special mixture of wood fiber and paper. Bass elements are also equipped with SMC, which stands for Soft Magnetic Compound. This will greatly reduce the distortion according to Dali.

Opticonserien will be available in black, white and walnut vinyl.

Dali Opticon LCR

These On-wall speakers are perhaps the most exciting in the whole series. Not because they are necessarily better than the other - that we know absolutely nothing about. But exciting because they constitute a category speakers where the pool is far too lean. Wall-hung speakers can be very interesting as surround speakers in a multichannel setup. But also as main speakers in a Lifrestyle-accented setup. The wall-mounted location has some challenges in relation to perspective. But we have among others from similar models in Rubicon renge heard that it can sound rudely well. And this speaker concept might be what gives them permission to be in the living room in the first place.

Swivel Hybrid Treble provides flexibility, and is combined with a 6 ½ inches. Sensitivity on 90,5dB and claimed frequency response is 72Hz - 32.000Hz.

Specifications.

  • Wall mount LCR speaker
  • 72-32000 db [Hz]
  • 4 ohms - 109 dB SPL
  • 90.5 dB sensitivity
  • Rota Table hybrid tweeter module
  • 6½ "Wood fiber low-loss woofer
  • Downward pointing bass port
  • 2 + ½-way system
  • 30-150 watts recommended
  • Single wire terminals

Dali Opticon Vocal:

The center speaker in the series, allowing Opticon to be selected in a multi-channel setup. Here the hybrid tweeter is of course rotated for horizontal orientation. And at the sam time this is giving an asymetrical layout

Specifications:

  • Wall mount LCR speaker
  • 72-32000 db [Hz]
  • 4 ohms - 109 dB SPL
  • 90.5 dB sensitivity
  • Rota Table hybrid tweeter module
  • 6½ "Wood fiber low-loss woofer
  • Downward pointing bass port
  • 2 + ½-way system
  • 30-150 watts recommended
  • Single wire terminals
