B & W P5 series 2 - new headphones from Bowers & Wilkins
Written by Karl Erik SyltheBowers & Wilkins launches an upgraded version of its on-ear headphones P5.
The British loudspeaker manufacturer has had a good series of three on-ear models - P3, P5 and P7. Simultaneously with an upgraded version of the in-ear model C5, B&W now launches the series 2 of the middle model P5.
In P5 series 2 they have used speaker elements based on the flagship model P7, elements that the B&W believe is the cornerstone of the good sound in P7. And the result has given a huge boost of P5 series 2 compared to the predecessor, according to B & W.
It comes with a carry case and cord with iPhone control to P5 series 2.

True Hi-Fi sound
Bowers & Wilkins launches P5 Series 2, with new drive units adapted from award-winning P7
Using driver technology adapted from the award-winning P7 headphones, the new P5 Series 2 brings true Hi-Fi sound to headphones designed to carry anywhere and everywhere
The new Bowers & Wilkins P5 Series 2 offers the power, precision and true Hi-Fi sound that made P7 so popular, combined with the portability and luxury of the original P5. The result is a headphone that delivers unheard of levels of detail and dynamics in a portable device in this class.
P7’s success and popularity was largely derived from the innovative use of Hi-Fi inspired drive units – closer to the approach used in traditional Hi-Fi speakers. Since that breakthrough, Bowers & Wilkins engineers have been working on applying the redesigned drivers of P7 to other headphone form factors. The result is the new and vastly improved P5 Series 2.
Like P7, the new P5 Series 2 uses drivers with a suspended diaphragm far more like a traditional speaker than other headphones, delivering more precise movement. As a result, the new P5 delivers breathtaking sound on the go: a wonderfully open and spacious soundstage, with powerful but also natural and tightly controlled bass, and every detail revealed and brought to life.
Designed for music on the move – with Made for iPhone® cable and a carry case included – the new P5 Series 2 is as light, comfortable and luxurious as its predecessor: the new drivers are encased in the finest materials, including real leather and solid metal. The new P5 Series 2 is understated, yet imbued with a sense of style and is endlessly wearable thanks to its luxuriously comfortable fit. So comfortable, you’ll forget the headphones and just feel the music.
New P5 features
New drivers- Based on technology developed for the award-winning P7 headphones, the new P5 Series 2 features drivers with a suspended diaphragm more like a traditional speaker than other headphones. These result in more precise, ‘pistonic’ movement of the diaphragm – and more accurate sound reproduction.
New internal components- Just about every internal component has been altered to ensure the new P5 Series 2 delivers the best possible sound for such portable headphones.
Design and materials- What the new P5 Series 2 shares with its predecessor is the iconic build quality and comfort of its design. High-end materials are used throughout, including leather ear cup covers and headband, solid metal end plates and headband frame.
Portability- Shrinking true Hi-Fi sound to fit in P5 Series 2 is no mean feat. And the new P5 Series 2 sounds better than ever, despite not being any bigger or heavier. With smartphone cable and carry case included, the new P5 Series 2 is true Hi-Fi sound, anywhere and everywhere.
Made for iPhone®- P5 Series 2 features an improved Made for iPhone Mic and Remote, with improved ergonomics for more control.
The new P5 Series 2 is available this September priced at $299.99
