Written by Karl Erik Sylthe
Mark Levinson launc a brand turntable player. It will be the second first record player from Mark Levinson ever
American HiFi legend Mark Levinson started out as a jazz musician, and was bassist for Paul Bley for 5 years, from 1966-71. During that period, he also created the mixer for the Woodstock Festival, before starting the HiFi company Mark Levinson in 1972.
The first turntable
All this time since the beginning of the 70s it`samplifiers that have been the goal for ML, until they entered car entertainment in the early 2000s. But they hav stayed away from turntables until a few years ago. Then they joined forces with the turntable veteran VPI, and in 2017 Mark Levinson № 515 Turntable was launched. A worthy flagship, with a price tag in the starting area for six digits (NOK)
Mark Levinson № 5105 Turntable
Now Mark Levinson has shown number two in the range of turntable models, and for some of us it may be good news that it comes at about 60% of the price of the № 515 Turntable. It is still a very rigid construction, with exclusive use of materials and a front panel in glass and aluminum.
The tonearm is a 10-inch made of carbon fiber, with HighGloss finish and fixed headshell. The platter is made of solid aluminum.
Even the user manual comes in elegant shapes, with a double LP cover as the case.
It is optional whether № 5105 Turntable should be delivered without PU, or with a MC at a surcharge of approx. 1000USD. In that case we obviously talk about an Ortofon Quintet Black.
The Mark Levinson № 5105 Turntable is expected to be available during the summer of 2020.
