Pioneer back with universal players in the really heavy class

Skrevet av

Pioneer launches two new universal players in the HighEnd class. We speak about the BDP-LX58 and BDP-LX88.

Pioneer emphasizes that both the new models they are launching are worthy successors of the former absolute top models DV-AX10 (2000) and BDP-LX91 (2008). And with a match weight of respectively 9.9 and 13.4 this is clearly heavy HiFi. Pioneer has put a lot of emphasis and resources to eliminate vibrations. The BDP-LX88 is also shielded power supply from the main body of the player.

Both models are compatible with Ultra HD, and upscaling. It is also emphasized jitter reduction, and Pioneer claim that both models have jitter at a minimal level.

The BDP-LX88 is equipped with Sabre 32 ES9018 DAC chip, and all four DACs per. channel when played in stereo. BVDP-LX58 is equipped with Sabre 32 ES9011 DAC chip.

Both models play all three HighRes disc formats Blu-Ray, SACD and DVD-Audio, and also has a very extensive knowledge listing on streaming formats. By HighRes formats we highlight FLAC, ALAC, LPCM and AIFF in 24bit / 192kHz, and in addition it can play DSD at 2.8 mHz. Also muliti channel formats are supported in FLAC, WAW and DSD.

Both players have two sets of HDMI outputs, but unfortunately no analog multichannel outputs. In return, top model BDP-LX88 offer both ubalanced- and balanced stereo outputs.

Rumour has it that the BDP-LX58 will have a price tag of about 700 Euro, while the flagship BDP-LX88 will be over double - ca.1.500 Euro. They are expected to land well into the fall.

Both models are of course guided directly to our tentative complete overview of Universal Players (requires min. Blu-ray + SACD).
