Last spring Arve reviewed Musical Fidelity's RIAA ViNL as it was on the way out. And he was very pleased indeed with this compact RIAA.

Now Musical Fidelity launched a new model that we'll assume is a successor, and the name has not fallen far from the tree. The newcomer is called MX VYNL, and is a highly flexible sample of this breed.

Musical Fidelity MX VYNL is one of three models in the compact MX series, a series of components in half width. In addition to the RIAA MX VYNL, we find MX-DAC and headphone amplifier MX-HPA.

MX VYNL is fully balanced, and has both RCA and balanced input. This allows two connected turntables simultaneously. Also for the outputs you may choose between RCA and balanced.

But in addition there are a number of adjustment possibilities on VYNL. And unlike most phono stagees most, all of those are located at the front, not via a series of dip-switches placed on the most undecent places. A gain switch has its own handle, same goes to choice between standard RIAA curve or IEC Supplement, introduced in 1972 providing an interception in the subsonic range.

On the right side we find a large wheel, which allows to select Input for MC-pickups, or capacitance for MM sources.
