Pioneer with new receivers in middle- and upper class
Written by Karl Erik SylthePioneer launches new models in the SC series. There are two midrange models, and three new receivers in SX-LX series.
Dolby ATMOS has been the key word this summer. Quite unexpectedly, the 3D format Dolby Atmos become mandatory for new receivers that have been released this summer. We have previously written about models with ATMOS support from Onkyo and Yamaha , and also Marantz and Denon have announced new models with this format from Dolby.
It goes without saying that Pioneer join this company. All three new models in the SC-LX series support Dolby Atmos. We are talking about the SC-LX58, SC-LX78 and SC-LX88. It is still somewhat unclear whether these models support four height channels or only two, but it is reasonable to assume that they will be able to support a 7.1 (2) .4 setup via external two-channel power amp, and 5.1(2).4 via configuration of the onboard amps.
But there are more good news in the new series of receivers from Pioneer. Streaming of multi-channel waw and flac files have been a major problem in HW sector. It has mostly been relegated to Oppo's Blu-ray players. Pioneer's new models also have this on board, although it is limited to 5.0 or 5.1, with a maximum resolution of 24bits/96kHz.
WiFi, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth is present on these models. The same applies for HDMI 2.0 supporting 4K/60p although HDCP 2.2 is not mentioned.
SC-1224 and SC-2024 has price of respectively NOK 7.998, - and NOK 9.998, - and are available in July. The smallest guy in the top flight SC-LX58 will be priced at NOK 11,998 - and will be available in August. We do not know the price of SC-LX78 and flagship receiver SC-LX88, but its predecessors have price tags of respectively 16k and 20k. The new top receivers become available in September.
